This annoys me, because the APK is out, everything is enabled server side, so why not just roll it out and let people use it?
The reason you roll things out slowly is that you want to make sure nothing’s getting fucked up, in part software malfunction and in part usage metrics.
I get it, but from here to October is a long roll out.
At the scale that Google operates, you need to play it carefully with rollouts.

That’s just a bit sloppy on their part in that case - you fix bugs on all applicable variants of the flag, otherwise you even kind of negate the Scientific validity of your results
So still no challenges brought back but instead loading it with AI? Dumb.
What are the challenges?
Fitbit used to have social challenges where you could invite friends/coworkers to daily or weekly challenges for the most steps. When Google acquired fitbit, they killed the social features to prop up their own Google service (Google Fit). But instead of people moving to Google Fit, they just started using a third party app, stridekick, for social challenges.
Ah, no wonder I didn’t know about it. I kinda use my Fitbit in a silo. The thought of people I know watching me makes me anxious.
I saw the headline and thought, “Information overload? I love data, you can’t give me enough data!” But no, it looks like a repeat of the Garmin Connect+ disaster, because they apparently didn’t learn that people don’t need AI to tell them stuff like “You slept for 9 hours last night. You usually sleep for 8 hours. That means you slept for 1 hour more than usual. Sleep is good for you.”
I like data too and generally after a workout I screenshot Fitbit and send that screenshot to Gemini for analysis and insight, so I’m quite excited to see what they come up with. I hope they’re really pushing the envelope.
Does it fix syncing? Mine will randomly stop, and not send any notification. It just silently stops working.
I think this has been happening to me too, come to think of it.
This smells like AI slop.

Does it present the data as well as Fitbit? Does it implement AI features as well as Fitbit? Why are you mentioning a random AF app that doesn’t even support the number one device used by Fitbit users? Up the effort please!
Is it lazy? Yes. Is it useful? Also yes. You’re complaining about a service, this comment gives you a viable option to not use that service.
I like the idea of the tool very much but it doesn’t support Fitbit so I don’t know why it’s been posted here other than your typical Lemmy FOSS-leaning sentiment.
