This annoys me, because the APK is out, everything is enabled server side, so why not just roll it out and let people use it?

    gadgetbridge ☞ https://gadgetbridge.org/

Gadgetbridge is a free and open source Android application that allows you to pair and manage various gadgets such as smart watches, bands, headphones, and more without the need for the vendor application. So in short, you can use Gadgetbridge instead of relying on your gadget’s own proprietary app.

Honestly, this is a lazy AF comment. Yes Gadgetbridge exists, but what’s its relevance here? Does it implement Material 3 Expressive better than Fitbit? Does it have more functionality than Fitbit? Does it present the data as well as Fitbit? Does it implement AI features as well as Fitbit? Why are you mentioning a random AF app that doesn’t even support the number one device used by Fitbit users? Up the effort please!

I’ve learned about gadgetbridge from a lemmy post and because i care about privacy, i’m using it now.

somebody may read that comment and choose their next device accordingly. If you’re complaining about Google, you have options

Is it lazy? Yes. Is it useful? Also yes. You’re complaining about a service, this comment gives you a viable option to not use that service.

I like the idea of the tool very much but it doesn’t support Fitbit so I don’t know why it’s been posted here other than your typical Lemmy FOSS-leaning sentiment.
