Here’s a video of what happened back then.

    1. The ship was boarded by Israeli soldiers rappelling down ropes from a helicopter. They were armed with paintball guns.
    2. A number of Islamist activists attack the soldiers with metal poles, knives, and other improvised weapons. Several Israeli soldiers are injured, one thrown down to the next level.
    3. Second wave of soldiers comes in with guns. Nobody on board that was peaceful got killed.

The Global Sumud Flotilla has now entered what they refer to as the danger zone outside the coast of Egypt, north of Suez. You can and should follow them live on their website. @Vegard@fribygda.no is the only person I’m aware of posting directly to the Fediverse from the first wave, but an unofficial channel is keeping us posted over at @globalsumudflotilla@mastodon.bida.im .

Rising public awareness about the flotilla puts pressure on governments to ensure their safety and to react if Israel infringes on their rights to sail in international waters and to open a humanitarian corridor. Anything we do to spread the word helps build pressure - this is one of the few times sharing stuff in social media is actually directly helpful. And unlike a lot of content from Gaza it can be a hopeful rather than (only) depressing message.

The next wave of the flotilla—Thousand Madleens to Gaza—is currently passing by the south of Greece. You can follow the French delegation at @1kmadleenfr@mastodon.social and the the Danish delegation at @thousandmadleensdenmark@radikal.social .

In other news I just re-watched Dunkirk yesterday. It’s a powerful story about what a flotilla of civilian ships can be capable of.

Nine ships intercepted as of 0:33. Apparently the israelis are shooting with water cannons to try to deter the others from continuing, hopefully they lack the capacity to board all the remaining ships before dawn. 33 ships remain on their way to Gaza, one of which (the Marinette) is significantly behind the others.

Yeah, I guess these links are not all that useful to most people here unless they also have Mastodon accounts or something. I like to try to link other parts of the Fediverse when relevant, but I guess it’s really limited how useful it is.

I saw Rimu post something about working more towards mastodon integration in Piefed at some point, and for Mbin users at least it makes sense.

“Five had gunshot wounds to the head and at least four were shot from both back and front. According to the UNHRC report, six of the people on the flotilla showed signs of ‘summary execution,’, including two shot after they were severely injured.”

Additional source. Standard practice for the IOF.

It feels like people are consciously posting stuff to make us prepare for Israel attacking the Global Sumud Flotilla and killing the people on it. Just today I’ve seen posts like “live streams of Greta Thunbergs flotilla”, “Israel sends warship to intercept Greta Thunberg’s Gaza flotilla”, “Greta Thunberg’s ‘Freedom Flotilla’ Directly Linked To Hamas, Israel Says” and now this post. It all feels very directed to that being the outcome.

I really hope that doesn’t happen, but it sadly wouldn’t be a surprise. Fuck Israel and every single person who has in any way helped them with all this.

It’s an active campaign to raise awareness and demand safe passage. The more we talk about them the less likely Israel is to get away with intercepting. So we talk about them as much as we can now that they are well within reach of Israeli state terrorism.

Well, it’s not unlikely, but Israel are reluctant to kill European whites because there’s a slight chance European leaders would actually care. So they stress how Greta Thunberg is doing great in their fascist news flashes. Meanwhile thousands are starving - they are murdering them all by refusing aid from entering. Each boat intercepted is murder.

Yes, I can’t imagine Israel’s economy surviving on their own, without any political support, much less their military budget.

But it might not be common knowledge that the world equates Israel’s actions to if USA did it directly.
Various ‘buy European’ etc campaigns are bcs of stuff like this.

It doesn’t matter if the usa killed palestinians directly or not if the murder is done by your weapons or money you are still complicit and responsible of those murders

You said it has nothing to do with the USA which is not the case since diplomatic protection from the USA and all the aid it gives to Israel is allowing Israel to abduct people in international law

Tbh I’m not sure where the misunderstanding even comes from. With what have I hinted that?

I said they (Israel) would not have (advanced) economy or military power without the USA.
(I even especially mentioned USA’s ‘political support’.)
I think that obviously very much covers the possibility of any extensive military campaigning.

Even with USA actions after WWII, without constant (and very sus) protections, direct & indirect support Israel would have been an enclave by the 70s.
But the USA wants to have a platform for their nuclear weapons & military logistics in that region.

Well I’m sure you’ll be happy to find out the flotilla is not from America and also condemns their assistance of Israel.
