But it has to be clear, obvious, immediate and real, and it has to signal there is a future that is worth actually building for. Which is the kind of stuff that for some reason are the stuff that are actually difficult for Liberals to do.

Britannia’s Huns with their long range guns. How brave they will face them with their 16-pounder gun and will frighten them natives to their marrow.
Colonial pricks. Call them Black and Tans while you’re at it.

The problem with Zionism is that it denies the same reality for all the other peoples living there and declares that only Jews have a right to a nation state there. Palestinians are also indigenous to the Levant. The Druze, the Samaritans, the Bedouins, etc. also.
Who has claim? No one has claim. All have claim!
acargitz@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•2018: Metro Responds to BDS Stickers: ‘This Does Not Reflect Our Opinions’2·4 days agoThe thing to remember is that BDS is not a revenge inflicted to punish immoral individuals. It is not demonization and it is not bullying.
BDS is a nonviolent pressure tactic to get the Israeli government to change policies. It is giving an argument to civil society organizations to say “is the apartheid worth it for us?” and “can’t we just be a normal country?”.

acargitz@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•The "Drop in Housing Prices" is a Media Smoke Screen3·12 days agoYes, which means it will take clarity of vision, political courage, speaking the truth, and policy alternatives.
“Your equity will be halved but so will your mortgage because we oblige the banks to sell off half of it to the government, and we then forgive it.”
“Your equity will be halved but your kids will be able to raise your grandkids within a 20 minute drive from you.”
“Your equity will be halved but you won’t need to worry about your retirement because of our new old age quality of life program.”
Etc, etc. A government that actually wants to solve a problem can always do it. Just see how all obstacles can be made to disappear when it comes to national security issues.
Plus, you don’t need to convince everyone, just secure pluralities in a majority of ridings.
