  • The article is very enthusiastic about explaining why it shouldn’t work, but completely glosses over the fact that it has worked

This post was originally written for ycombinator “Hacker” News which is vehemently against people hacking things together for greater good, and more importantly for free.

It’s more of a corporate PR release site and if you aren’t known by the “community”, calling out solutions they can’t profit off of brings all the tech-bros to the yard for engagement.

There are a lot of free VPNs with developers from China, mostly with a subsidiary in Singapore or Hongkong. I wouldn’t like funneling my data to CCP but most people wouldn’t even notice.

But at the end of the day, it depends who you’re hiding from. All those 2FA SMS codes don’t generate themselves. That is if you have 2FA, if not you’re already part of their botnet.

    Tldr:

in order for Accrescent to continue advancing, we need $5,800/month in recurring donations to fund its full-time development.

We are currently receiving $112 each month in recurring donations.

We are currently spending $53.53/month on our services.

We recently discovered that an unprecedented Monero donation of ~$16,062.50 was received in the short time after we totaled the latest values for this article but before it was posted.

Because this is a significant donation, we will be posting an update on our social media accounts soon about what this means for the project
