Maoism reinforced women’s rights compared to what came before, reinforced worker’s rights, kickstarted industrialization, defeated fascism in China (both the Kuomintang and Imperial Japan), freed China from colonialism, and doubled life expectancy. It wasn’t perfect for sure, but any political alternatives at the time were measurably worse by any metric.
