memes@lemmy.world•I'm here for memes, not snappy Xitter, 4Chan, reddit or similarly sourced screenshots of texts
201·17 days agoI see a bit of both sides being argued in the comments here. We don’t have a clear rule about this atm, so removals have been inconsistent and case-by-case, often based on reports.
Maybe I’ll start and pin a discussion thread about this during the week (when we’ll get the most eyes on it) and see what the wider community wants, and if desired, maybe we can come up with a rule wording that isn’t too restrictive, but removes stuff that genuinely feels “off topic” for a memes page.

Linux@programming.dev•NVIDIA Drops Pascal Support On Linux, Causing Chaos On Arch Linux
6·19 days agoI’m running PopOS and Debian with Nvidia cards that should be affected by this, if I’m understanding this right. Ugh.
What a pain.
This didn’t have such a wholesome outcome for Cricket.

Isn’t this P3?

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•French President [Emmanuel Macron] publicly congratulates Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, calling the Game of The Year win "a historic first"English
661·1 month agoIt deserves all the praise it has received. What an incredible game.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It's quite impressive that most English speakers across the world understand each other, despite variations in accents/dialects
182·1 month agoI think it’s the harsh consonant sounds. I’m not a linguist and am sure there’s some term for it, but it seems like we identify words in English more from the distinct “framing” of the consonants and are more flexible about hearing variations in how the vowel sounds in between are pronounced.
For example, it’s the same reason that whispering (which largely takes out tone/pitch of vowel sounds) is super easy in English, but more difficult in some other languages.
If it elicits a groan, it’s peak dad humor.
Piefed has been going slow for me for the past week. Not sure why, so I just swapped back here for a few days and will try again soon.

memes@lemmy.world•Did you get your Limewire Wrapped?
12·1 month agoIt was just so much simpler then. Aside from the viruses.
Well that’s much better
They’re angry and sent me a DM suggesting I was either paid $7000 and/or am a nazi if I saw anything to do with politics in this meme. You be the judge.

I can read this as either: AI allows anyone to code their own stuff.
Or
AI is hogging all the million dollar ideas.

memes@lemmy.world•Have you astral projected yet today?
0·6 months agoJust did some digging, and it’s legit and from a 1994 book called “The Internet Guide for New Users” by Daniel P. Dern.
Mildly interesting side-note, I found someone’s blog about posting this image and book to a (now non-existent) fediverse server. https://doughnut.neocities.org/blag/15

Technology@lemmy.world•Supreme Court to decide whether ISPs must disconnect users accused of piracyEnglish
0·7 months agoI’m not a judge, but isn’t internet essentially a utility these days? Cutting someone off because of piracy seems like cutting off electricity or water because they did something illegal with it.
As is tradition, of course.
Thanks. I was on the fence about it, but I received so many reports that I figure enough people must consider it NSFW.
Would you mark it NSFW please?

Funny@sh.itjust.works•Teens are banned from the park.
1·7 months agoI looked all over for that logo first too. It’s definitely the same style of humor.

memes@lemmy.world•Reminder about Rule #2: No politics
1·8 months agoNo worries. It would be best to just repost that one in the politicalmemes community instead.

I see this. There was another thread today where people were discussing if stuff like this counts as a “meme” or if it’s off topic for this page. I’ll be making a pinned post for community input tomorrow about a potential new rule. Stay tuned.
