Arguably nuclear power has a lesser environmental impact than hydro despite its good reputation as a renewable.
Nuclear is just scary for the average person, even though the world has seen more dams breaking than nuclear reactor faults.
mostly inactive, lemmy.ca is now too tainted with trolls from big instances we’re not willing to defederate

A neoliberal is just someone who admits there are structural problems but thinks collective/systematic solutions are “too extreme” and the problem can be solved if everyone just behaves the right way every time.
This is literally the opposite of what is being said in the thread. Everyone agrees that we need systemic solutions. This doesn’t preclude the usefulness of enforcement.
There is an abundance of studies showing the positive effects of red light cameras.
It literally takes one to three finger presses on a machine to opt out of tipping when you don’t feel like it’s appropriate. I don’t understand why this has to be discussed over and over. It’s the lowest hanging fruit social norms change ever.
The thing is, touristy places like Vancouver will only ever see these go up because tourists are generally biased to believe that tipping 20% is normal. Get used to choosing “Other %”, it’s that easy.
Photo radar is a cash grab.
Yeah fuck those drivers and let’s grab their cash at least up until we can grab their licenses.
Have cops pull people over it’s much more effective at changing behaviour.
If only we had actual data analyzed by real researches out there instead of basing ourselves on talk radio bullshit like this
As if I needed another reason to shit talk Alberta, but the list just keeps increasing
What an excellent use of public funds… fighting against active mobility and better cities
Arcteryx has been doing some hiking shoes/boots, but they haven’t been Canadian owned for over 2 decades
Sad to learn this :-/
Brazil has the some of the worst coffee on the planet
Brazil is the biggest coffee producer, so it’s both the biggest source of shit cheap coffee and also a big source of very good expensive coffee. Guess which one is picked as supplier for most chain stores?
If you get Brazilian beans from a local roaster, it’s pretty damn good. But it’s microlot so obviously expensive.
It tastes bad anyway. It’s really hard to find decent OJ, never had a decent one from USA’s oranges so either their oranges suck or they mess it up trying in increase shelf life
But I hear the Canadian government abuses it for eugenics purposes.
The widespread consensus is that MAID is hard to get, not that it’s dolled out in excess.
The government has more effective tools to get rid of their undesirables, namely cutting off healthcare (including MAID) and social programs. It turns out that having a relative stuck in palliative care and you having to purchase 10 different medications every week and still be forced to watch them suffer is a financial and emotional burden that disproportionately affects lower income families.
I think the dislikes are more likely related to your comment implying a false dichotomy between two ideas that can easily coexist: that we need better healthcare for better health outcomes, and that we need assisted death as a humane approach to end of life care when palliative options are insufficient for a dignified and worthwhile existence.
Might not have been your intention but it does come across a bit disingenuous.
Definitely. Let’s invest in healthcare so that fewer people have reasons to choose euthanasia
Because it’s a humane thing to do.
That’s messed up. Perhaps I’ve been living in blissful ignorance of what porn ads look like.
“A lot of her body is being shown with no clothing visible” doesn’t register as evidence of porn because that’s a normal way to dress oneself. “And she’s making over the top acting faces” just puts her as an average YouTuber/TikToker.
There’s no joke, the word “huge” is to be interpreted at face value. There’s no pun either.
Still don’t quite get why would anyone think this could be about porn

Wdym? Why would it be a porn reference?
Isn’t being Canadian and caring about worker rights enough for having “to do with it?” Does a journalist need any special reason to talk about world events?
This is usually “enforced” through fines, since unions are institutions that can be held liable for these decisions. Ultimately unlawful job action might end up leading to lawful termination though, so it takes a lot of courage to do what they’re doing.
No, these have always been different things. They were similar numbers, one was and still is 30% and the other was close to 30% nationally in 2004 (but for BC the benchmark was already >40% for example) but these numbers were not “linked”, they were close to each other - which was a good thing, hence why it was a good benchmark at the time.
