Just like older forms of media (print, radio, tv) there’s much deeper pockets for right-wing “funding” than on the left. And many left leaning outlets/personalities will turn down cash flows that might limit their control over their content. Follow the money. Always.

Everything didn’t happen at once. There was a lot of denial and “that’s just hearsay” at the time. Just like today. No different than someone thinking they’re poking fun at Trumps regime. Still a lot of “they could never”, “that won’t happen”, “they can’t actually do that” talk.
