I can understand Lemmy or others communities hesitation on this. They’re being very cautious about which features we enjoyed from reddit lead to dark patterns and drama.

This seems mostly benign to me except that it can take somebody’s faux pas (don’t @ me on the spelling) and extend the dunking forever into the foreseeable future. On the one hand, there are legendary people who will allow that to happen to themselves for good spirited entertainment. On the other there are people who will get addicted to the rush and quickly fill the site with ragebait which will be one of the first things newcomers with empty block lists will encounter.

I’m glad people are starting to grow up from this tired old sentiment. We live in a vast network of people and literally no one is entirely self sufficient. the ones who seem to be are just striking a pose and selling a vibe as a means of connecting. we do live our lives with consideration of others or else we find ourselves pretty alone when it all comes down.

Like, “What’s red, wet, and hangs on a wall?” the answer is a Herring or something similar and when someone questions that, you simply explain that you can paint a Herring and hang it wherever. Possibly add other nonsense to further confuse.
