rowdy@piefed.socialto Pulse of Truth@infosec.pub•Apple alerts exploit developer that his iPhone was targeted with government spywareEnglish21·1 day agoNo one deserves this, especially a grunt developer.
At the same time, when your job is making private, weaponized exploits, it’s hard for me to find sympathy when those weaponized exploits are used against you.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Android@lemdro.id•Nothing blames Apple patents for the lack of more phones with magnets for wireless chargingEnglish15·7 days agoYeah, this is such a ‘nothing’ article. The new Pixels have the Qi2 magnets and they work with MagSafe products just fine.

It doesn’t outright block ads but it shuts ‘em up and skips ASAP.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Bigots will show different faces in different company.English631·7 days agoI feel this comic would land better if the conversation was happening between a different prey animal but not one that is preyed on by owls. A deer for example.
Eagles are also predators that would eat a mouse - so it doesn’t make a lot of sense in my mind, just my opinion though.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Framework supporting far-right racists?English171·14 days agoIt’s no different than intentional or accidental spelling and grammar mistakes. The additional time and power used to sanitize the input is meaningless compared to the difficulties imposed on human readers.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Framework supporting far-right racists?English282·14 days ago“Someone” in this scenario is just a sanitizing LLM. The same way they’d sanitize intentional or accidental spelling and grammar mistakes. Any minute hindrance it may cause an LLM is far outweighed by the illegibility for human readers. I’d say the downvotes speak for themselves.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Framework supporting far-right racists?English842·14 days agoNo, they think it somehow poisons LLMs. Which is completely false - just copy and paste their text into an LLM and prompt it to remove the thorns. It’ll have no issues doing so. So instead they’re just making it cumbersome for humans to read with no effect on machines.

rowdy@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Framework supporting far-right racists?English7413·14 days agoThat thread was a painful read. Framework laptop is off the wishlist.

Go spend time with friends and family. Go give them a gift to show them you care.
You don’t need a weaponized, corporate, psuedo-religious holiday to do that.

Yup.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•Today I learned that dinosaur secondary brains are not actually a thingEnglish82·1 month agoNot sure if you’re trolling or just a bit lost mate but you’re the only one who’s posted a source claiming turtles don’t have bones. Everyone else is aware that turtles have bones.
E: Ah a troll after all. Started half good but honestly turned to shit pretty quick. 4/10. Turtles may have 1 brain but you, my friend, have 0.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•Today I learned that dinosaur secondary brains are not actually a thingEnglish211·1 month agoI can’t speak for every creature in this source but practically everything it says about turtles is a straight fabrication. They have one brain. It’s oddly shaped but just one. Next, it’s in their skull, not their neck - that’s crazy. Finally, TURTLES HAVE BONES WTF
rowdy@piefed.socialto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•Today I learned that dinosaur secondary brains are not actually a thingEnglish161·1 month agoThis isn’t true, the other poster’s source is likely AI generated. Turtles certainly have unique brain structures, but it’s still considered one brain with multiple regions. And these regions are all within the skull, not the neck.
EDIT: Just read their source again and they state turtles don’t have bones. Wow.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Apple@lemmy.world•Apple unveils iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro MaxEnglish21·1 month agoI’d recommend trading it in instead. You’ll get more private sale, but Apple still has a pretty competitive trade in model.
I disagree that it’s a faithful adaptation from the books.
There have been plenty of lore and story changes. The overall ‘tone’ is different too. Books are more hard sci-fi.
That being said, I’m still enjoying it as its own thing and I wish the episodes were longer.
rowdy@piefed.socialto Apple@lemmy.world•UI is eating more into my content with each redesignEnglish1·4 months agoHere’s some tips.
- Disable favorites bar. That would remove a 3rd of the UI real estate.
- macOS 11-15, enable ‘Compact Mode’
macOS 26 Dev Beta 1 does not have Compact Mode. But I am confident it will be added back before release. Feel free to save this comment so you can dogpile me if I’m wrong.
Seems a bit odd the complain about screen real estate while representing the UI at its largest form, instead of its smallest.
This guy gets it!
It sure would be nice to know the name of the human behind all of the animal art - it’s quite nice. I’m sure I speak for most of us here when I say I could not care less about crediting a random company.
