  • I think things will make a turn in about ten years. Yes, climate is very critical, but the kids of today will have a better shot at shaping the world in a time when the last old ideas from the fossil fueled age have finally died.

It’s going to get rough, but at least they have a chance of changing it. We never did get a chance, because the boomers were kept alive with improved healthcare. It’s the same people who have all the wealth and power today as it was in 1980s.

So maybe Gen-X and millennials will be the next old assholes, but at least they’re better educated and their views are much better aligned with younger generations than the old ones. We might finally be able to work together across generations politically in just a few years time. It’s much needed, and it’s hard work, but I envy the kids who get to be the creators of the post-boomer society.

  • Because it’s a cramped space. People who get up when the plane touches ground are going to be standing in the walkway with their bags and butts pressed against other people for all the time it takes for the plane to taxi in and connect the doors to the terminal or stairs.

They do not get out faster.

  • I’ve tried a few different distributions and yeah, it varies.

It seems logical to get Ubuntu Studio for audio, but in my personal opinion it’s kinda bloated. I’ve tried most of the included software at some point and decided that I’m not going to use it.

I’d rather have a clean simple distro and then just install Reaper for all my audio needs.

That has worked out great on both Mint and Puppy. I don’t know about Ubuntu, because it’s been several years since I tried that.

I did also install a few games on Mint, but nothing like AAA games, because the PC doesn’t have a graphics card. I just play Minecraft and Sauerbraten. No issues with those.

Maybe I’m lucky, or maybe it’s because it’s old hardware or pretty standard laptops, but I’m also not trying much, so I also expect it to work.

Keep it simple. I think that might be the key, because I have seriously not had a single issue with anything, nor have I typed a single line in the terminal.

If I needed a multipurpose PC, I’d probably go with Mint as of now. I’d install one app at a time and figure out what I actual need instead of trying to make everything work at once.

That’s what I’m doing with my DAW right now. One plugin at a time. If something doesn’t behave, then I don’t need it. When I turn on the PC to make music, I don’t want to waste time fixing stuff. I’m totally over trying to fit a square block into a round hole. I’ve already tried that for too many years using Windows.

  • They’ll learn the lesson of a break up just like anyone else. They’ll get over it and eventually find another chatbot.

It might even prepare them somewhat for IRL relationships. Things do not always work out and you can’t count on the other part to always do as expected.

It could actually be interesting to give these bots less than ideal personalities just to teach the users how to interact with actual people. With some caution though, because I can definitely see that go really bad too.

  • I really don’t feel the need to identify myself as any sort of -ism.

What matters more to me is how you act. It doesn’t matter if someone identifies as a feminist if they don’t act like one.

I think I do, but I’m probably not the best to evaluate my own behavior.

Anyway, since we’re on the topic, it recently came to my attention that most top charts for media like music, films and online content is absolutely dominated by men. For no particular reason, it’s just what people consume. I wonder why. Coming from a place that is seemingly more equal than most of the world, I’m surprised that the people here, even the women, are still consuming more content made by men than by women. So I set out to change my own consumption. Looking through my YouTube subscriptions I found that I myself was watching only content from men, so I started subscribing to more women doing content within my usual interests. I mean, I’m not looking for women doing things because they’re women, but rather women doing things that everyone might do, but they just happen to be women. It’s difficult. It feels like fighting against the algorithms just to find it, and I gotta say, a lot of the content made by women is still trying to get subscriptions based on the idea that everyone on the internet is a man. Seriously, women. When I’m searching for geeky stuff I’m not going to subscribe to your ass or breasts. Take that shit to OnlyFans or whatever. I actually want to hear or watch the topic from your perspective. And seriously, men… please behave. It’s so fucking cringe to read your lustful comments anytime a smart women dares present her face in any of the serious channels. I definitely understand why women upload less content if that’s the feedback they get.

Well, I did manage to find some channels worth subscribing to, and at the moment I’m probably up to a third of my subscriptions being from women. I don’t think I can push it much further without having to watch things that I have no interest in or which conflicts with any of my already mentioned points. I’ll also have to acknowledge that there are differences in what topics interests men and women enough to post about or consume.

However, finally, I would suggest anyone who ever searches for something to sometimes get the woman to explain it to you instead of choosing the man every time.
