  • Yes Odysee is also used by right wings, same as YT or others, In Odysee you find all kind of content and political spectrum. It remain in the same, Bandcamp is for music the best alternative also fair with the creators, it’s a good measure to listen most content for free and a optional paid download of tracks or the whole disk, not given in YT. There you can only legal download an video with an premium account and where the money goes to YT, not to the artist as in Bandcaamp. I only hope that the EU offers more alternatives to YT, but until now there is no other as using the less evil alternative and Bandcamp and Odysee are.

  • You don’t need Premium anyway. For the cost of an YT Premium account you can use Netflix, Rakuten or any other paid streaming service with less money, or even for free in PlutoTV, or channels of public TV of every country, where you can watch movies, documentals, Series, etc for free, without ads. The greed and policy of YT will be its end sooner or later. Ads always can be avoided, uBO, even uBO Lite, Adguard and several others are working fine in YT.

  • Naturally the first question is, how they make money. There are several options how they can do it. There are mainly two manners, the ethical and the unetical way. The unethical way is, to recive money from several companies to push determinated results, SEO positionings, to profile the user, selling private data to advertising companies…, or the ethical way which don’t compromete the user privacy, offering an paid pro version, contextual ads, revenue by some shops when the user buy something using the service…

    Andi’s business model

    https://andisearch.com/business/

Excluding of business models apps and services fom non-lucrative organizacions and hobby projects, good example of the last is the SSuite, made by two electricians which gain their money with the owned electric workshop, nothing to do with programming.

  • Yes, but if you don’t have a big server for an decent LLM, it’s more private, but notmore reliable as the paleolitic MS Clippy. Andi is currently the most reliable and private AI, made by a small startup pissed of the big corporations and the surveillance, the reason why are the first which want to use the AI for searches long before any other, with an own independent LLM, centerd in reliable sources and answers, contrasted in several sources. In change to others it don’t invent nothing, if it find an answer it offers an traditional websearch. All anonym, with random proxie, no logs, no tracking, no ads, no coolies, no limits, no account. Eg. permits to watch YT videos in the search result, without ads, as said, works even as YT front end, which other search engine can do this? Try it, I use it now since more than 3 years and as said, I don’t regret it.

  • Are not the US citizen a joke, you can not blame people who were educated in ignorance by the Governments, more in the fear of God than in the lack of reasoning capacity in a pseudo-democracy. Living in abubble and helpless in shock, when they visit Europe, seeing what means living safe and protected, with rights they even didn’t know that they exist. This is only sad, we make fun of your crappy fascist system and the current pedo-nazi asshole of president, not the people which don’t know it better.

  • Yes, but Chromium is a good example, it’s 100% FOSS, but not recommend to use it before “checking three times” to strip out all the Google tracking APIs and other profiling crap (ungoogling it), but this need a big effort by the browser companies, which have to do it on every new release, so their versions are always behind the one from Chrome or others which use Chromium as is. I don’t see an advantage that big corporations develope OpenSource incorporating their crap, when later devs have more work with forking it than with independent releases.

  • The FOSS movement was created from the collaborative efforts of hobbyists, and through shared interest in the same goal (avoiding the restrictions of existing software), it will further grow and develop.

Agree with this 100%, the problem is that nowadays half of the FOSS isn’t made by hobbyists, but by big corporations, most Google and M$, which invalid great part of the FOSS philosophy. In great part of OpenSource services which request an account, you see an Pop-up, offering to log in with Google or even Facebook. Currently it’s sadly mandatory to check three times FOSS before using it, FOSS was nice until this datahogs discovered it as cheap source for their products, not more reliable as any proprietary soft from small startups, even less. Not a good sign for an free internet.
