Reddit has been on a slow, steady downward trajectory for over a decade. However, it was the rampant engagement bots nagging me with inane questions that drove me away. That, and overzealous moderation deleting comments and dishing out temporary bans for the lamest reasons. Reddit used to be the place where smart and funny people hung out and shared. Now it’s just another bland social media site trying to wring the greatest profit out the unwashed masses.

N0t_5ure@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What age gap is too big of an age gap if someone's in their early 30's?51·2 days agoIf they are looking to date younger, I’d say that 25 would probably be the realistic minimum, as that is the age by which the brain is fully developed. If a thirty year old is looking to date older, I don’t really see any real limit. Their brain is fully developed, and they’ve been an adult long enough that they can evaluate the pros and cons of the older person.
N0t_5ure@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next yearEnglish4·3 days agoWell then, you’re already all set. Google edition phones all have unlocked bootloaders. I’m currently running a Pixel 6 Pro with GrapheneOS. It’s super easy to install and use, even if you’ve never messed with your phone before. I’ve been looking to potentially upgrade to a newer phone, because mine is a few generations old and Graphene doesn’t support phones forever, though they do for quite a while. An unlocked Pixel 9 Pro is around $550-650 right now, but I’ll probably wait another 6 months, as the prices will probably fall another $100-$200 in that time frame.
N0t_5ure@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next yearEnglish14·3 days agoNow that the Pixel 10 is out, the Pixel 9 prices are falling. If you’re going to load GrapheneOS, you need to make sure you get a phone that has an unlocked bootloader, which is different than being carrier unlocked. Any phone that was initially sold through a carrier like Verizon or ATT will have a locked bootloader, as the carriers don’t like people messing with the phone software to unlock features that they may charge for (e.g. hotspot).

N0t_5ure@lemmy.worldto Boycott US@lemmy.ca•US freezes assets of judges on ICC from France, Fiji, Senegal and Canada in what is being described as an affront to the rules-based international order.English47·8 days agoLet’s take a moment and think about how dumb this is for the U.S. to do.
The U.S. sanctions mean the judges are now on a list of specially designated sanctioned individuals. Any U.S. assets they have will be blocked and they are put on an automated screening service used by not only American banks but many banks worldwide, making it very difficult for sanctioned persons to hold or open bank accounts or transfer money.
So basically, the U.S. has used it’s “exorbitant privilege” arising from the status of the U.S. dollar as the reserve currency of the world to set up and control a financial system that gives it tremendous power. It is now using that system to bully citizens of allies because they are applying international law in investigating criminal conduct. In what world would any sane country not see the potential for further abuse, and immediately being working towards building an alternative system that does not rely on the whims of an unstable dictator? Add in the severe erosion of U.S. trade resulting from tariffs, and the likelihood of the destruction of the U.S. dollar as Trump gains control over the Federal Reserve, and it’s pretty easy to see the days of the U.S. dollar as a reserve currency are numbered. This will crush the U.S. economy for decades.

Not necessarily. There are “do not crawl” tags bypassed by AI bots, burdening sites with greater server load.

I live in Southern California, and have been learning Spanish on my own using the comprehensible input method. I have pretty decent comprehension at this point, and could really use some practice speaking. I’ll look into this.

My shins are already hurting by just looking at it.

My guess is that he didn’t use a lot of sunscreen. Also, facial fat and loose skin on the neck really make you look older. McDowell is fairly lean, but you can tell that Hall is carrying some excess weight.
The inspiration for the Cybertruck:
N0t_5ure@lemmy.worldto memes@lemmy.world•"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."15·11 days agoHe’s 57. Is this what the average man looks like at 57? I’m 59 and easily look a decade younger than him. My guess is that the hard life of an ex-celebrity has aged him prematurely.
I will say that it’s styling is unique and distinctive, and looks like it belongs in a videogame, making it a polarizing “love it or hate it” aesthetic. While such a risky choice could potentially succeed, Musk going full MAGA and throwing Nazi salutes really turned a lot of people off of Tesla, and it’s distinctive flagship videogame “truck” became the instant icon of douchbaggery. Add in that Musk chronically over promises and under delivers (i.e., he lies about prospective features and benefits of his products), and every single problem with the vehicle is put under the microscope and (rightfully) held up as an example of why the truck is shit. Also note that, on brand for Musk, the relatively low price that it was promised at ($39,999) never materialized, and the actual price for the base vehicle was over $100K. So yeah, overpriced and shit compared to what was promised. The styling might have been able to find a fanbase, but not now, because it flags you as a Nazi supporter.
