Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Trump pardons trail runner convicted after taking shortcut during record runEnglish
6·11 days agoAnother article on the subject.
As mentioned, Sunseri had proactively contacted the park on September 11, 2024, offering to help close the trail or assist with signage. Those offers were declined, and instead, in early 2025, prosecutors offered a deferred prosecution deal, but with severe terms, including 1,000 hours of community service, reeducation classes, and a five-year ban from Grand Teton National Park.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Trump pardons trail runner convicted after taking shortcut during record runEnglish
58·12 days agoSunseri received widespread online support after his conviction and appeared on various podcasts telling his story. The hashtag “Free Michelino” also became prominent among the trail running community on social media.
Before the pardon, prosecutors agreed to seek dismissal if Sunseri completed 60 hours of community service and a course on wilderness stewardship, according to Sunseri’s attorneys. He had originally faced a fine of $5,000 and a lifetime ban from Grand Teton National Park.
The guy cheated and violated the National Park rules meant to preserve the Park. On top of that, he’s an “influencer” who was filming the run even though he knew it wasn’t allowed. He was going to get a slap on the wrist.
“Free Michelino”. He wasn’t imprisoned. Maybe, the original punishment of 1000 hours of community service was severe. But, they were trying to send a message because he’s an “influencer“.
If you’re gonna broadcast your life for attention, I think it’s fair to expect full punishment when you break the rules.

Not feeling sorry for this guy.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want to avoid your MIL. I also think it’s reasonable for your wife to maintain the relationship.
Can you use her visit as excuse to take a vacation—alone or with friends—or visit your family? Given the circumstances, I think avoidance is a perfectly valid option. Get some you time if your wife is cool with it.

32·26 days agoThey’re disputing false claims? So they’re saying there are true claims of massive data breach?
And there’s another reason I don’t hang out with people who boil their hot dogs.
Waiting for a toilet seat to be delivered is really more efficient than getting one in the mean time while you’re already away from home in your car? Or out to dinner near the home store?
Only IF you drive and it’s the only thing you go shopping for and the only reason to drive.
If you really can’t plan your shopping trips efficiently then, maybe.
Walk. Bike. Stop on the way home from work.
I can understand Amazon or other online stores for some things but toilet seats?
Come on people. At a physical store you can actually touch a toilet seat and know what it feels like. I guarantee no one needs a particular brand of toilet seat. Also, toilets seats are relatively dense. It’s environmentally unfriendly to have them shipped home.
This applies to many products.

science@lemmy.world•Researchers took 44 men and gave either plant-protein or animal-protein supplements for 12 weeks while strength training. There was no statistical difference in muscle strength or mass between groupsEnglish
2·29 days agoAnd, my point is that calling this research pointless is just wrong because it answers à different question.
I’m not disagreeing that the question that you want answered should be studied. It should. But, the fact that this research doesn’t answer your question doesn’t make it pointless.
It’s perfectly valid research to study whether the results are different between animal-based and plant-based supplements. I didn’t go through the citations but they say:
Recent evidence suggests that both animal and plant proteins support strength and hypertrophy gains when paired with resistance training and adequate protein intake
which sounds like the research you’re asking for has already been done.

There is something to be learned from this. Using a control would answer a different question.

3·29 days agoThat’s not how science works. You do experiments even to find out if it is pointless.
But, yes, they should have a control group.

41·30 days agoDoesn’t matter. The point of the research was to determine if there was a difference between animal and plant based protein supplements for adding muscle. The results would apply to anyone.

science@lemmy.world•Researchers took 44 men and gave either plant-protein or animal-protein supplements for 12 weeks while strength training. There was no statistical difference in muscle strength or mass between groupsEnglish
272·30 days agoRight, for the average person, protein supplements are unnecessary as long as they are healthy and eat well.
Athletes (and people with body dysmorphia 😬) might struggle to get enough protein in their diet. But, far too many people think they’re in a position that would warrant supplements when just a little attention to diet is sufficient.
