  • I predict over the next decade a lot of people are going to start flipping the script on these employers. Now that this genie is out of the bottle, it’s going to be pretty hard to cork it again. Maybe for a bit, but it’ll soon boil over. I mean some of this RTO is really just poorly disguised layoffs that the PR department doesn’t want getting out. Or it’s about control at the micro level. That’s going to get figured out pretty fast.

Either way, smarter companies are going to use balanced WFH as a recruitment tactic (that could literally save them money), and I also predict the numbers are soon going to reflect that the next couple of years aren’t as profitable for these guys that are dictating five days a week in the office, and their people are going to be far less satisfied. Might get away with it for a bit if the economy slows down, I dunno, it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out.

  • 2005 was when they went public. That’s when the enshittification started. It all started when they went central with their bakeries and pulled all the baking from in house. Then the prices started going up. 25 cents per fiscal year, almost to the calendar date. Then shit started getting smaller. Less staff. The bagel toasters suddenly sped up a whole lot.

Fast forward to like say 2015, they were probably the biggest users of the TFW plan. Didn’t train anyone properly. Couldn’t keep staff. The toasters went so fast the bagels pretty much shot like a torpedo out of the toaster when someone put one down. Food was never warm. Lids leaked like hell, and no one would do anything about it.

Used to be a multiple times a day tim visitor. Best thing that ever happened to me was when they went to shit. It correlates directly with better health, better financial health and habits and it removed what was pretty much an addiction. I haven’t even been inside one since COVID.

  • On the last part, that’s how minority governments work. The NDP were just puppets, used for their votes, and nothing more. Sure they were made to feel like the popular kid, but you are right, they took the fall on anything unpopular. They maybe even got a few things done, but did they really? That pharmacy care coverage thing for example, it’s been such a shoddy implementation and some of the provinces are ignoring it. It’s almost like it was designed not to work…

Meanwhile the Liberals got almost four solid years of gears, thanks to the Dippers.
