Fediverse@lemmy.world•Flohmarkt - a Fediverse replacement for Facebook MarketplaceEnglish
1·10 months agoI don’t think this can be used for monetisation, I am not sure the instance gets a cut of any sales, they are just connecting users.
That is an issue the Fediverse, with its anticapitalist stance, has yet to full address but Ghost is addressing how to monetise content in a Substack way and that subscription model is probably one that would be more acceptable on the Fediverse.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Flohmarkt - a Fediverse replacement for Facebook MarketplaceEnglish
1·10 months ago“Just go to fedi.markets”
I don’t see an issue. With any service on the Internet you direct people to the URL of an instance not the underlying code. If they saw “powered by flohmarkt” and asked what that was, I’d say it was German for “flea market” and I imagine they would be satisfied with that.
The thing is, the Fediverse, link the original concept of the Internet is flexible and can survive losing nodes - it just routes around and issue. If there are problems it can mutate and survive.
I’m not sure if there’s a solution here, but I’d like to urge people to avoid lemmy.ml hosted communities in favor of communities on more reasonable instances.
This is the best solution - the answers are in our hands. Communities only thrive because the users are.posting and interacting on it. If the Mod goes inactive or an instances goes down, we can switch to a new community. That then gains the momentum and goes on to thrive. It’s survival of the fittest and why having more than one community on a topic (especially big topics) is a feature not a bug because it gives the network flexibility and resilience.
So if there’s an issue with lemmy.ml, boycott it - unsubscribe, give the other communities on more agreeable instances your time and they will grow and prosper. If there isn’t a relevant alternative start one.
Lemmy prevails.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Wafrn, the tumblr inspired fedi software has got a new logo and a new installerEnglish
1·1 year agoTumblr is short-form blogging platform, inspired by tumbleblogs, which were a thing back in the day (another example of Big Tech lifting an idea and then walling it off). So it’s like micro-blogging but without the word limit, so you can throw out a thought or a picture or a video, or go into greater detail if the mood took you. On Tumblr people would tend to have a few on different topics.
I much preferred it to Twitter as it felt a lot more free-form but usually focused on a topic.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you rather eat a poop flavored chocolate, or chocolate flavored poop?English
0·2 years agoWouldn’t chocolate-flavoured poop just be like a chocolate mousse with some sweetcorn sprinkled in? I’d definitely eat that rather than the thing that tastes like actual shit.

Yeah, let’s show them! … how to be decent human beings by example.
