I still have somewhere my ATI Radeon X850XT-PE but it died like 13 years ago. I just cant throw it away. One day i will fix it!!!
It depends. Handy is still pretty common and everybody will know what you are talking about. But atleast in my circles we just call them smartphones most of the time now.
thats german anglicisms for you. before smartphones we called mobile phones handys
Eh, this was explored several times over the last 15 years and never stuck around. At this point in time i dont even see a marketable reason since phone cameras are good enough for the average user for several years now. Hobbyist or professional photographers will stay with their purpose built devices with robust and long living lens systems, better ergonomics, exchangeable batteries and storage, etc
This current effort will result at best in gadgets with questionable performance compared to their price with probably several short living but not interchangeable standards and ecosystems.
But sure, if they pull off an open standard with say a 1" sensor and a bayonet mounting system which will be supported for several years over several manufacturers and devices with affordable lenses and addons which have feature parity across all (non)proprietary camera apps I’m all for it. But even then i dont think there is a big enough market for the ecosystem to be sustainable.
But these users can fuck their phone up perfectly fine with the offerings provided by the horribly curated play store and thats even intentional. I dont doubt there are also techilliterate users who seek out dodgy sites to sideload some shitty apk. But i dont believe google one bit this move is made to make the experience more secure for this subset of users. Its about as much control as possible over their platform because the line must go up.
As someone who actually played tons of emulated games on phones in the past: These products sadly only sell the dream of a slick controller which integrates well with a phone. But the ergonomics will be so dogshit you will barely use them. Main issue is that modern phones got way to heavy and with these kind of setups the weight is pretty frontloaded. Even with Clips for a proper Xbox/PS controller you atleast want one were you can adjust it so that the phone is kinda in front of the controller like the linked one(linked only for demonstration sake, no purchase advice). I had one which didnt adjust when i even worked construction and had some muscles and it got tiring fast even though the xbox controller has some heft to its own to balance the weight out and some proper handles to hold onto.
We would actually need a Xperia Play successor where only the relativly light screen portion slides up. But even with the integrated controller the Xperia Play only weight like 175g. With a modern Phone and these controller concepts you frontload >200g. With this particular one you even cram together your hands and arms super tight. Must feel awful even after 5 minutes of play.
The only thing that atleast worked for me are those slidy phone controllers like the Razer Kishi, Gamesir G8, etc Issue with them is they’re either cheap and dogshit or expensive af. I caved for a G9. Maybe today there are better options with sensible prices, idk. But with them you dont have that slick pocketable stealthy experience. I always had to carry the controller in my backpack. Didnt get much use from me outside because it was just that tiny bit too much of an hassle to whip it out quickly and also wasnt stealthy enough and looked way too gamery. But it got tons of use on my couch and bed though!
I want to be MR WAVE. But i’m honestly the part where the editor fucked up and showed how POWERFUL PEXSTER jumped awkwardly of the quarterpipe before he ripped some awesome MOVES.
I’m one of those weirdos who disliked “Apps” from the very beginning when Smartphones became a thing. Like, i can do all of the shit you provide in my browser. Keep off my data. But with even Firefox as the only alternative to chromium moving fast towards AI its maybe time for me to just enjoy the net with open source apps which explicetly dont use AI at all. I just cant anymore.
lmao, the amazon appstore.
the last time i used it was on a phone which i bought with froyo and updated to gingerbread. but even then it was just crap filled with shovelware.
yeah, yeah probably relevant for non-techy people who still hold onto their fire tablets which they didnt instantly jailbroke.
thats why i put the /s there. Its complicated man.
