“LGBTQ+” feels disrespectful to anyone who falls under “+”, like they’re not as important as the other letters. Maybe we should stick to referring to everyone as “sexual minorities”?

See that sounds way better than “LGBTQ+”. But the downvotes I’m receiving tell me why it’s so hard to change or improve things or progress.

Yeah, you’re right, there are contexts that change the meaning of the word. There’s a difference between calling myself queer and someone calling me “a fucking q*eer”, y’know?

          Maybe not evergreen then.

But that’s what “LGBTQ+” refers to, sexual orientation. What do you think it refers to?

Your idea explicitly plays into phobic “corrupting our youth” tropes that past activists fought against for decades, which are still used today to ban books in libraries (and worse). It’s also incredibly unpleasant to be counted that way if you’re agender or asexual (or both). Using actual names for as much of the coalition as feasibly possible is far more respectful than reducing us to that.

T means trans. If you use a longer term like LGBTQIA+ you also have the I for intersex people. Q for queer also includes all different types of genders if I understand the term right (theres also the concept of genderqueer people which is an umbrella term for all different genders).

Care to elaborate? The ever-increasing series of letters is obviously problematic, how would you improve it?
