Just did an A.I. workshop today on how to improve my resume, cover-letter, and job search.

In general I don’t use AI for much of anything, so while most of the info was pretty basic and kinda, well, useless, I did actually learn a few new things today.

    I’m just done with a three month manual metalworking course as part of my electrical engineering apprenticeship. I’ve done a fair bit of woodworking in the past so it was interesting to see how those two compare. I’m personally not a huge fan of 3D printing so it’s nice that I can make a whole bunch of stuff like housings or replacement parts from metal now.

    I recently did a first aid workshop. It’s nice to learn the skills for first aid and cpr, but I was a bit terrified by the fact that all the participants will actually get a first aid certificate.

        Knowing I passed with an 80 for the Food Manager Safety Cert and that’s not the lowest it can be and pass, I understand some fast food places near me better.

    I’m in the middle of rebuilding entire bathroom workshop though had to put that on hold for few days to come do a remove wallpapers and paint the walls workshop. For the weekend I have a garage plumbing workshop.

    I also went to an AI “workshop” last month. It was a vendor invitation so I was already expecting a sales pitch. The main motivator was the free lunch. I was already expecting disappointment and somehow I was disappointed even more. They literally just demo’d their product, not even at least pretend to do a “workshop” and have attendees do something. The worst part is that it took 1.5 hours and there was even a break in the middle, for something that could’ve been done in 30 mins or less. Lunch was great though.

      AI can detect when you’ve used AI (lol) and may disqualify you for doing it. (Bigger lol)
      Copy lines into notepad which will remove the formatting you don’t see, then copy it into your resume/application to help avoid that.

      Look for jobs in the usual places, but try to find the actual company site/email and apply there directly.

      When asking AI questions about your job search, don’t be afraid to add your own limitations to the search. (Can you drive? Can you stand for prolonged periods? Are you “honest to a fault”, then sales might not be for you.)

      Look up ATS in this context and learn what it is, and more importantly, learn how the people using it, use it. (And if they use it at all. Construction companies probably don’t if they’re not big.)
