I prefer to run games in my own world. I get to set the rules and make the lore. Sometimes I borrow it but generally I prefer a new setting. Never too overwrought or anything, I’m not throwing a novel at my players. Most of it is designed to be reflective of players experiences. So I only give basic information that they’d have access to anyone and then specifics depending on what interests them. They wouldn’t get much information outside of the area they’re from so that way when people interact or hear things, each player can pipe up and go “Oh!” and add in some exposition. Makes everyone feel more part of the world, I feel.
Planescape setting has it for you already! Bytopia.
