I don’t think you can even buy a new car without a screen for the driver. Android Auto and Apple carplay do not run visually on your phone screen, they are a connection to a compatible built in screen or a stand alone for older cars that don’t have them. Android Auto only allows certified apps to run on the second screen, like Maps or music subs.

For the moment, you can bypass the android auto limit of certified apps on the car screen with a toggle on the phone.
