business lobby groups in Canada—released a report called “Breaking Gridlock: Congestion Action Plan for Toronto.” Outlining the “congestion crisis,” the report said that “Congestion strikes at our productivity and erodes our competitiveness.” In the face of economic uncertainty, it argued, “Canadians want action to secure our economic future.”
Yes we do want to address these issues. Thats why we want to build bike lanes, transit, and denser housing because decades of research has proven more car lanes do not fix congestion and often make it worse. Many studies have also proven that the majority of businesses get more business when a bike lane is provided.
Securing our economic future by continuing to rely on energy intensive transportion like cars goes directly against the major threats our future holds, climate change and energy crises.
It’s very dumb, and very typical of Ontario Conservatives. They don’t make policy based on evidence or reason.
IMO it shouldn’t be legal for doug (or any premier) to lose a case in court then attempt to pass the same contested legislation a few months later snuck into a different bill. There should be a minimum waiting period to attempt to pass that legislation again. The tax payers and cyclists of ontario already paid up, stood up, and fought for their rights, they shouldn’t have do it again so soon.
