Serious question, what was the guy being arrested for where they needed to be armored but don’t have guns drawn on the supposedly dangerous criminal?

If there’s one place you don’t need to be armored, it’s arresting someone on a plane. Everyone has already been screened by security and even their nail clippers have been confiscated.

You don’t dictate your outfit in the vast majority of military organizations, you just get told where to go and what to do.

The military is often far better trained and disciplined and follow their rules and guidelines and can actually shoot what they aim at and don’t mag-dump a random car when a squirrel drops an acorn on it.

You can be a cop with a high-school diploma and a few weeks of training, and it’s almost impossible to get booted from the industry once you’re in.

Even fewer requirements for ICE and the other goon squads who are cosplaying all over the place right now.

Everyone is getting into these nuances (like, the goggles can be unclipped.) But if you know you are going on to a goddamn airplane, why would you wear any of this big bulky shit in the first place? You’re limiting your ability to move in a crowded space. You know he doesn’t have a gun because he went through TSA (because those guys are super accurate and professional, right?) so this “bad guy” could just start crawling over seats to try to get past you and get off the plane, meanwhile you’re stuck in the aisle like a turtle on its back with your Ya’ll Queso beer belly and all your big boy GI Joe gear.

These fascists want to feel like big, tough soldiers but aren’t qualified for military service.

It’s not just that. More people need to know about how escalation works. Yes, there’s a strong tactical advantage to being more prepared than your adversary. At the same time, you have to consider what the opposition will do to attack/defend when confronted with superior numbers, weapons, and body armor; they’ll likely try to match that force as much as they can. Since it’s a space filled with civillians, this ramps up the risk of the operation tremendously (e.g. take a hostage or get dissapeared). They would have done much better to dress like typical cops without all the tac gear. Yanno, de-escalating the situation rather than the opposite. The passengers on this plane should be pissed.

Most cops have some kind of tactical gear kept in the trunk of their car. They don’t mess with it for each call they grab and go.

I’d rather have them wear night vision for nothing than spend an extra 10 minutes fucking around in the parking lot to not.

But I do agree with the main point of the post. Clothing plays a part in our psyche. If you dress sharp you’ll act sharp. If you dress slopply you’ll act sloppy. If you dress like a soldier you’ll act like one, and that usually isn’t what cops should be doing. Hammers seeing nails and all that.

i’d rather they not exist as a paramilitary arm of the state with a license to murder people. the same people they pretend have rights.

In this case both points are correct:

That shit probably sucks to install and remove, and only SWAT should need it.
