Business owners in downtown Prince George are calling for a local state of emergency to be declared after a recent series of fires have threatened their businesses.

In the past week alone, fires were set outside the Nancy O’s and Betulla Burning restaurants, which led owner Eoin Foley to send an email on Friday to Mayor Simon Yu, council, MPs, MLAs, RCMP and local media to draw attention to the matter.

Every single time I’m in PG I see homeless people with fires burning directly next to buildings. Its very obvious there is a massive drug problem in PG which results in a LOT of homeless folks. Probably due to it being the treatment centre for all of Northern BC.

Not sure what the fix would be, maybe better housing supports for people there for treatment? Actually prosecuting attempted arson when fires are lit in dangerous areas like this? Both?

if Prince George declares a emergency it will be the first domino of hundreds in BC. it is only going to get worse when the government of all levels refuses to hold criminals in jail
