Linux@lemmy.ml•Pascal (GTX 1070) on Arch after NVIDIA 590... what’s the sane long-term path?
1·18 days agoOkay you have a point. Maybe I was too quick to let loose an anxious post.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Pascal (GTX 1070) on Arch after NVIDIA 590... what’s the sane long-term path?
7·18 days agoThanks! It seemed to me that this’d mean I had to run something like my custom kernel which I have to forever maintain myself.
Thanks for pointing me to the correct solution. I figure out implementation.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Pascal (GTX 1070) on Arch after NVIDIA 590... what’s the sane long-term path?
2·18 days agoThis is actually difficult for me. When the wiki starts talking about custom kernels, I don’t fully understand it yet. I’m learning, but that’s where things stop being obvious.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway thanks for pointing me to the exact location. My struggle is knowing what to implement / what the correct solution is. See, now that I know install
nvidia-580xx-dkmsis the right thing and won’t break things I know what to do. (if that makes sense?)

Linux@lemmy.ml•Pascal (GTX 1070) on Arch after NVIDIA 590... what’s the sane long-term path?
1·18 days agoR/n I have the card just deactivated. Not looking to play AAA games but using this laptop as a “player 2” for Minecraft multiplayer.
It’s just thst deactivating the card and calling it dead silicon seems a tad sad…

Linux@lemmy.ml•Pascal (GTX 1070) on Arch after NVIDIA 590... what’s the sane long-term path?
3·19 days agoThank you for a nuanced answer. I start understanding.
For people who’ve gone the linux-lts66 (or similar) route from AUR: is that something you’d consider “set and forget,” or does it eventually turn into a kind of babysitting?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Pascal (GTX 1070) on Arch after NVIDIA 590... what’s the sane long-term path?
33·19 days agoMaybe I don’t understand. Here’s what I got form the news. I can install nvidia-580xx-dkms from AUR but it needs be build for my kernel. So everytime I run pacman -Syu I risk a kernel update thst needs me to manually rebuild dkms. Right? Feels like anxiety before each update…
Relatively new to this. Probably missing things I haven’t heard of.

10·19 days agoBut are we talking a couple of years or a couple of months till Debian rolls to 590?
How is steam on FreeBSD these days? Main use for this laptop would be playing “old” games like DarkSouls.
Peak automotive engineering!

3·1 month agoA detailed room-mapping scan is basically a wealth report disguised as vacuum telemetry: square footage, room count, layout complexity, “bonus” spaces like offices or nurserie; all of it feeds straight into socioeconomic profiling. And once companies have that floor plan, they’re not just storing it; they’re monetizing it, feeding it into ad networks, data brokers, and pricing algorithms that adjust what you see (=and what you pay) based on the shape of your living space.
And a mapped floor plan also quietly exposes who lives in the home, how they move, and what can be inferred from that.

Oh. Agree, also use the same convention; my brain never made the connection f(i, j) goes up and i and j are inputs and stay down.
Is about 6.4 liters based on this probs being a pint glass.
Seems like a good night 🍻
